Vibe On!

THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT - Collection

...And Rob Tyner Saith from Thee Golden Halls of R&R Valhalla:

"Let there be young Japanese men who would don thee garb of their native gangsters Thee Yakuza! These torchbearers of Thee Rock shouldst also worship at Thee Altar of DEEE-Troit High Energy Exponents of Revolution like mine Olde Outfit, Thee MC-Fuckin-5! And so shall it be that these Young Men cannot pronounce "Machine Gun Etiquette," thus giving them an original Nom de Guerre! And it shall be carved in Sacred Tablets that these Vessels of unbridled fury shall permanently bear blisters on their fingers! A-fucking-Men!"

But before this could come to be, Link Wray, drunk on the Holiest of Sacraments--Maker's Mark, according to many an Ancient Hymn-- chopped at the air with his Powerful and Much-Calloused Mitt:

"Silence, Robert! I hath a Proclamation!"

After far too many moments of chilling quietus, interrupted only by occasional hiccups:

"Out with it Father Link!  This chipping shit into stone with a spike and hammer is really fucking time-consuming!"

And Father Link rose from thee Pulpit, uncoiling himself to his full, Godly height, and fighting off a stagger howled into thee Hallowed Halls, "These little bastards are guilty of pinching many of my finest flash moves! Yet, they Doth Kicketh Mucho Hiney... So it is Good!"

Get Thou to thee comments.

  2. I might regret telling this tale, but whatever - About 10 years ago, when I couldn't admit that time was catching up on me and glasses would help a fair bit, I went into a record shop, and at the letter "M" i picked up and bought what I thought was an lp by this lot. Got it home and played it - thought, hmm not as good as I was expecting. Wasn't this lot - 'twas a Scottish punk band called "Machine Gun Etiquitte".
Never did go back to try and get the real one, but I did get glasses. A cautionary tale, I'm sure you'd agree.
    Thanks for this.

  3. I saw these guys on their big LEVI's sponsored tour in '99 or '00 at the Echo Lounge here in ATL. I was bar backing and ready for a corporate poo onslaught, but HOLY SHIT they were unbelievably good. They were obsessed with my afro and took like a thousand pictures of me with them singularly and as a band. That whole Japanese camera stereotype is totally true. Oh yeah, they gave me shirt that I barely fit into anymore!

  6. Love your writing, Jake.

I sometimes think that TMGE is the best rock'n'roll band EVER. 50+ years of rock led to this, the crowning glory of rockin' musical evolution. They're perfect.

Oh yeah, thanks a bunch for Helios Creed, he's pretty rockin' too. In a way.

  9. ah,Jake ,talking about garage noise...i dont like makin' self marketing, but as we got new songs and a decent design now, if you have some free moments please take a look at my band myspace.

we like the stooges, boredoms, pere ubu and a great etc of things i think had appeal to you. normally i avoid this kind of propaganda - repeat, repeat, repeat - but i really believe there's a chance of you find something of interest in our work.

    well, if you want to...

    hope ya the best

  11. i've been to one of their shows last year. well, the record is good, but alive they are unbelieveble. hardcore as it must be played, full of tension, dissonance, drive without pose and energy without violence. top of list!
