sleep are absolutely amazing band :) thx!
ReplyDeleteLove Les Rallizes Denudes. I have a ton of their stuff, not sure if I have this one or not. Their eighties work is particularly weird, with the new wave cliches being torpedoed into the depths by Mitsutani's uncompromising acid guitar. Awesome stuff.
ReplyDeleteWell, Jake, you've pretty much covered all of the bases in terms of who turns my crank guitar wise this past week or so...
nice!! i just saw om at the independent in sf a few weeks ago with lichens. definitely a bong related show. thanks for posting the link!!
ReplyDeleteOm is a band whose albums I've liked less & less & less. I wish they'd add a new wrinkle or three to their sound as it sounds to me like they've been treading water for the last four years. Great sound, great ideas... boring final product.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I only "moderately" have liked the output of Om.
ReplyDeleteI really really want to like them, but I find it kind of boring - probably doesn't help that I don't smoke weed - but to me they seem "accessible" or something. It's safe for hipsters, aka, "non-metal types" to accept them.
I'll take High on Fire anyday over these guys, and yeah, I ain't gonna win any friends w/ that comment and yeah, they are a different style of band, but you gotta admit that AL & Hakius haven't really killed it w/o Matt Pike in the fold.
(just sayin)
Jesus says, "You're welcome." ;^)
ReplyDeletei agree that high on fire puts on a way more interesting show than om, i left before the show was over. al was wearing a hilarious red sweatsuit for the show so i got a few laughs off of that. he was kind of a dick to a clueless guy in the crowd too. the guy kept yelling "dopesmoker!!" and he finally was like "you are ten years too late dude." the show was fine but a bit redundant, i went to see my friend rob in lichens which was interesting but not completely mindblowing either. it happens. on thursday though i saw peter evans perform with my friends weasel walter and damon smith and THAT was AMAZING!! i might have a recording soon if you are at all interested.
ReplyDeleteI forgot - that Sleep recording is most likely from the Kennel Club in SF CA.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the live cuts. I was going to catch Om / Birds of Maya / Dan higgs on Thursday but the show was canceled. I have heard through "sources" that Om has called it quits. Downer.
ReplyDelete@ L-RV: I think you're right-- I seem to remember "Kennel Club" stamped on the original boot that a friend of mine had, in a cheap plastic sleeve w/ even cheaper computer paper insert. Thanks.
ReplyDelete@ Lonesome CG: Sure! If you wanna put it up here I'll give you full credit (I'll even add you as a contributor if you'd like).
if u dont mind i'd like 2 ask u to expand our communal LRDN collection)))
ReplyDeleteTHANX for this live one!
Help yourself. Seems like a noble cause to me.
